Introduction to the History of Andalusia, the Lost Paradise

This course aims to provide an introduction and an overall picture of Andalusian history. Al-Andalus lasted for eight centuries, and no matter how much we try to expand in this series of lectures, we cannot fully do justice to its rich history. The material was originally delivered by Professor Abdulghafour Ismail Rozi (may Allah have mercy on him) and represents the fruits of his knowledge and efforts in serving Islamic history and scholarship. The course covers key periods and topics such as the era of governors in Al-Andalus, the Umayyad Emirate from the arrival of Abd al-Rahman ibn Mu'awiyah until 315 AH, the reigns of Abd al-Rahman al-Nasir and al-Hakam al-Mustansir, the Amirid state, the Taifa kingdoms, the Battle of Zallaqa and the Almoravid state, and many other themes.
