About this course
The American Revolution course examines the Revolution as a broad, long-term transformation rather than only a military conflict. It explores how British colonists became American revolutionaries and how a cluster of colonies formed a confederation of states with a common cause. Drawing on political, social, and cultural history, the course traces participants’ shifting identities as British subjects, colonial settlers, revolutionaries, and Americans, from the pre-war period through independence, constitution-making, and the early national era.
