About this course
This survey course introduces students to fundamental concepts in human fertility, population growth, the demographic transition, and population policy. It examines human and environmental dimensions of population pressure, demographic history, economic and cultural causes of demographic change, environmental carrying capacity and sustainability, and the political, religious, and ethical issues surrounding fertility. The course balances theoretical and large-scale demographic analysis with case studies of individuals and communities in both developed and developing countries.
